The short version
- Check every factual claim against the item, its labels and your own notes.
- Review item specifics and condition fields as carefully as the description.
- Remove unsupported claims, explain useful details plainly and choose the final price yourself.
Before publishing an AI-written eBay listing, check the item’s identity, condition, size or specifications, included parts, price and shipping settings. Review the listing fields as well as the description. Keep the physical piece nearby while you do it.
The aim is a description that helps a buyer understand what will arrive. It does not need to turn a perfectly good shirt into “an exquisite statement of timeless sophistication.” The shirt can manage without that particular promotion.
Listalong Snap is being built around editable AI drafts and seller review. This checklist explains what to look for when reviewing a draft, including one you prepare with any tool available to you today.
1. Confirm that the draft identifies the right item
Start with the thumbnail and title. Do they match the piece in your hands? Then check brand, model, garment type, color and any distinguishing version information.
Be careful with similar items in one batch. A correct detail from the previous item is still wrong when it travels into the next listing. Matching the stock code and photo group first can save a much longer correction later.
Do not publish a suggested brand or model because it looks familiar. Use a readable label or other reliable evidence. A general resemblance is not proof of an exact model, a limited edition or a particular year.
The photo-to-listing guide shows how to collect useful evidence before the draft is written.
2. Check condition against your actual inspection
Read each condition claim as a small question: what supports this statement?
For clothing, check marks, pilling, holes, repairs, seams, cuffs and closures. For electronics or cameras, distinguish appearance from the tests you carried out. A device that turns on has not necessarily passed every function check.
Watch for broad phrases such as “excellent condition,” “fully working,” “complete” or “no flaws.” If the item has a known issue, describe it clearly and include appropriate photos. Do not let a cheerful opening paragraph contradict the condition note lower down.
eBay’s selling practices policy calls for clear, accurate item information and disclosure of relevant condition details. Check the platform’s current requirements for the category you use.
3. Verify the facts that photos can leave uncertain
These details deserve a deliberate check:
| Detail | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Size and measurements | The exact tag, sizing system, units and measurement method. |
| Material | The label or other reliable evidence; do not guess percentages. |
| Model and compatibility | Identifiers and supported documentation, rather than a visual resemblance. |
| Testing | What you checked, the result and anything not tested. |
| Included parts | The actual accessories, cables, pieces or packaging supplied. |
| Age, rarity and authenticity | Evidence for the claim, or remove it. |
For US clothing buyers, state inches clearly where you give measurements. Keep flat garment measurements distinct from body measurements. Our clothing listing checklist covers that preparation in more detail.
If a fact remains unknown, leave the uncertainty clear in a way the category supports. Filling every blank with a confident guess does not make a listing more complete.
4. Replace general praise with useful information
Imagine this invented draft:
Rare vintage pure-silk shirt in flawless condition. A perfect fit for any occasion.
Now imagine the actual item has a polyester label, a small cuff mark and a tag reading US medium, with no evidence of its age. A more useful description would be:
Blue polyester shirt, tagged US medium. Button front. Approximate flat chest width 21 inches and back length 28 inches. Small mark on the left cuff, shown in the close-up. Please compare the measurements with a shirt you own.
The revision gives the buyer facts to judge. It removes four unsupported promises without making the listing difficult to read.
Use short sentences and put important limitations where they are easy to find. If an accessory is not included, say so near the description of the item rather than hiding it after several paragraphs of sales language.
5. Check the fields outside the paragraph
A correct description does not repair an incorrect condition selection or size field. Review category, brand, size, material, model and other relevant item specifics separately.
eBay’s item-specifics guidance explains their role in matching items with buyer searches. Choose supported, accurate values; check the options for details that are unknown or do not apply.
Then compare the title, photos, description and fields as a set. If one says medium and another says large, resolve the difference before the buyer has to ask.
6. Choose the price and confirm the sale settings
Review the price against useful sold comparisons and your costs. An AI estimate is a starting point to assess, not a completed valuation. The US pricing guide includes a simple worksheet.
Check postage, handling time and returns settings for the actual item. A saved default can be convenient while still needing an exception for a bulky or delicate piece.
Before publishing, ask: would a buyer reasonably understand the item, its condition, what is included and how it will be sent? If the answer depends on an assumption the listing never explains, add the missing detail.
Review is part of the Listalong Snap workflow
Snap’s previewed flow brings the thumbnail, title, price, condition and important details together for review, with editing before publication to eBay. Photos and seller notes are intended to help prepare the draft; your review connects the wording to the real item.
Snap is currently in private iPhone testing in Australia, with Android on the way. There is no announced US release date, and features may change before launch. See the planned app and get availability updates.
Common questions
Who should check an AI-written eBay listing?
The seller should review it against the physical item and reliable records before publishing. Fluent wording does not verify the brand, condition, material, model or what is included.
Can Listalong Snap’s AI drafts be edited?
The planned Snap workflow includes editable titles, descriptions, prices and listing details before publication. Snap is coming soon; the app page previews the intended launch experience.
Can AI infer garment measurements or prove electronics work from a photo?
Do not treat a visual estimate as a verified measurement or a functional test. Measure the item and record what you actually tested. Supply that information in your notes and check how the draft describes it.
